Berkeley Farmland Protection Seeks New Executive Director

GREAT opportunity for skilled, people-oriented administrator who seeks job that combines office hours and opportunity to walk the beautiful Berkeley County countryside as well.

The Berkeley County Farmland Protection Board, based in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia, is seeking a people-oriented, highly self-motivated and experienced Executive Director to start in January, 2015.

This is a full-time position that requires strong personal initiative, excellent demonstrated writing, public speaking and communication skills, administrative and organizations skills, and a commitment to the goals of land protection and conservation. Candidates should be self-directed, and possess a strong work ethic. Other important job qualifications include attention to detail and documentation, ability to multi-task and to work independently, ability to manage budgets and timelines, and the leadership and interpersonal skills to coordinate and direct contractors, to communicate and work effectively with a board of directors, and to serve as a spokesperson for the farmland protection program. Duties include developing proposals for easements for farmers, contracting and managing professional services, managing administrative duties, and maintaining strong relationships with landowners as well as county state and federal agencies and related organizations.

The Executive Director monitors easements, and occasionally travels within the state. The Executive Director will also report regularly to the board on progress, developments, and identification of issues requiring board assistance.
